SEATTLE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER — Modern and Minimalist Wedding

This was an editorial photoshoot featuring Shaynah Vandegriffe’s designs with the styling and floral work by Alisha Tkach in Portland, Oregon.

〰️

What a dream this shoot was. This was a collaboration with my good friend Alisha Tkach, owner and floral designer at For the Love of Floral in Portland, Oregon, and a fellow photographer and clothing designer, Shay Vandegriffe. Alisha and I had been talking for over a year about how badly we wanted to collaborate on something outside of the norm of wedding style. We are both passionately drawn to Editorial and Minimalist Wedding Fashion and design, so we knew that whenever we came together we would be very much on the same page. We decided on a whim to throw something together while I was in Portland for a wedding, and quickly contacted Shaynah. I instantly thought of Shaynah when thinking of who would be a wonderful model but also an amazing dress (and clothing) designer with a modern and minimalist style. I had met her a year prior at a photography workshop and had been following along with her personal clothing designs, and am constantly in awe of what she dreams up and creates. We were ecstatic that she was free and interested in joining us as our muse.

We broke the shoot up into four looks. I’ll include more details below on the different pieces included in each look.

We held the shoot at Alisha’s home studio where she crafts floral designs. She had a perfect light in her office, so we taped some crepe paper to the wall and grabbed a stool. That was about it for setting our scene. Alisha designed a perfect, small, and eclectic bouquet that suited Shaynah’s minimalist designs perfectly. We wanted to incorporate the wall of her home in some of the shots to create a more interesting visual for the backdrop and to enhance the imperfectness.

Lastly, I knew I wanted to shoot on as many different cameras as I could, to take advantage of the shoot and provide some more options when the shoot was said and done. Practice makes perfect, and it was a perfect place to practice. I ended up shooting on 5 cameras, including a Canon Mark IV, a Canon 6D, A canon AE-1 35mm camera, a Polaroid Originals One-step instant film camera, and my iPhon 8plus. Each camera is represented fairly equally below, including the iPhone which was the most pleasant surprise of them all! I played with shutter speed, aperture, and angles as well as playing with the different cameras. All in all it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, and just reinforced how much I love fashion photography and minimalist/left of center bridal style.
