for jess + ryan’s engagement session, we met out in the northern end of Snoqualmie valley around 4:50am. Our goal was simply to beat the sunrise. I knew that I wanted to see what sunrise could offer, given that in the photography world sunset is so popular and predictable.
this was such a fun session for many reasons, but the main one is that despite being so early in the morning jess + Ryan brought so much energy and enthusiasm. so grateful for them and their love for each other : ).
I loved finding that sunrise brings a cool low light that reminds you that in the moments before sunrise it is really still night : ). sounds so obvious as I write it, but I never thought of it in terms of how I would shoot. while that heavy dark mood quickly brightens into daylight, it was a cloudy morning so that nighttime feeling lingered a little longer. the light and this feeling that we were on a bit of a spontaneous adventure together, encouraged me to play with a slower shutter speed to embrace the softer movement and the feeling that we were all breaking any sort of normalcy by meeting up as strangers on a weekday at sunrise : ). my hope is that these photos leave you feeling nostalgic for a summer camping trip, making new friends, old filmy photos, and/or the feeling of being in nature when nobody else is around.
thank you jess + Ryan again for lending yourselves to this little adventure, so grateful xo!!
